A Taste of Change: IHG Hotels & OzHarvest's One Million Meals Milestone
In a remarkable demonstration of community spirit and corporate responsibility, IHG Hotels & Resorts and OzHarvest have delivered over one million meals to those in need in Australia. This significant achievement symbolizes not just an outpouring of support but also a commitment to tackling food waste and food insecurity within local communities. IHG's Managing Director, Matt Tripolone, remarked, "Reaching more than one million meals is a meaningful milestone and reflects the collective efforts of our colleagues, hotel teams, and partners across Australia."
Making a Difference Together
Founded in 2018, the partnership between IHG and OzHarvest has flourished, driven by numerous initiatives. One of the hallmark programs, Stay for Good, sees participating hotels donate $1 from every room night sold during specific periods, creating a direct link between travel and charity. Additionally, fundraising events like the Winter Soup Challenge have led to the creation and distribution of over 3,000 liters of delicious soup, while essential dry goods drives have contributed thousands of kilograms of supplies to struggling families.
Empowering the Next Generation
Perhaps one of the most vital aspects of this partnership is the focus on education and training through OzHarvest’s Nourish program. This initiative actively aids young individuals facing barriers to education and employment by providing them with hospitality training and life skills development. By engaging with IHG's hotel operations, participants gain real-world experience and mentoring, opening doors to sustainable careers in the hospitality sector. This emphasis on personal empowerment highlights how food relief can be paired with long-term community upliftment.
Extending The Impact Beyond Australia
Encouraged by the success of this initiative in Australia, IHG Hotels & Resorts is looking to replicate this food rescue model in neighboring countries, including Vietnam with VietHarvest and Japan with JapanHarvest. This expansion speaks volumes about the global responsibility that underpins IHG’s operations and its goal of improving the lives of 30 million people by 2030.
The Call for Continued Support
With initiatives such as Stay for Good gearing up to return this September, IHG Hotels & Resorts remains devoted to its mission of serving communities in need. The organization encourages individuals to consider how their travels can contribute to positive change in society, turning every stay into a chance to make a difference.
