In an inspiring initiative aimed at revitalizing agricultural communities, Jollibee Foods Corp. has successfully empowered farmers in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija, through its innovative Farmer Entrepreneurship Program (FEP). This program enables local farmers, traditionally struggling to make ends meet, to shift from mere laborers to thriving agro-entrepreneurs.
Farmers, often the backbone of society, face considerable economic hardships, which can perpetuate cycles of poverty. However, as Jollibee found, proactive engagement with these communities can usher in meaningful change. By collaborating with local farmers, the program ensures that they not only gain access to financial resources but also develop crucial entrepreneurial skills.
Building Strong Foundations for Agro-Entrepreneurship
Under the stewardship of dedicated leaders like Arnold Dizon, chairman of Kalasag Multipurpose Cooperative, the journey of these farmers narrates a remarkable story of resilience and growth. Starting with just 30 members in 2008, the cooperative has grown significantly and now boasts over 71 members, offering support through loans and educational opportunities.
Wencelito Gomez, one of the founding members, reflects on a time when farmers faced unfair market conditions, often selling onions at a mere P 1 per kilo. Through partnerships with organizations like Jollibee Group Foundation, these farmers could achieve market fairness and contribute to food security more effectively than ever.

The impact of the FEP goes beyond securing fair pricing. Farmers are now equipped with the knowledge to develop supply plans and obtain necessary agricultural certifications, ensuring higher quality produce aligns with growing consumer demands.
