In July 2023, Chris and I made the leap from sun-soaked Prague to the mystical landscapes of Scotland, a realm known for its enchanting beauty, rich history, and classic whiskies. Joined by our adventurous Californian friends, Molly and Kevin, we found ourselves engulfed in a week filled with highland escapades and urban explorations within Edinburgh, a city steeped in history and culture.

Scotland isn’t just about its iconic castles or breathtaking lochs; it’s a destination rich with stories waiting to be discovered. The tales surrounding this rugged land often shape travelers' experiences and offer unique insights into Scottish heritage. Determined to explore the highlands, we rented a car, bravely opting for this real-life version of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. Kevin took the wheel as we navigated Scotland’s winding roads, often filled with roundabouts and narrow lanes that highlighted the country’s charm and challenges. As we ventured further into the countryside, we discovered quaint villages and stunning vistas that reminded us of the beauty hidden in spontaneity.

Our base during the first leg of our journey was an Airbnb on the outskirts of Inverness. This suburban haven served as the ideal launchpad for our explorations into the highland wilderness.
